The Sri Lankan government will submit its Appropriation Bill for 2010 to the Parliament on June 8 followed by the presentation of the Budget on June 29, the government announced on Thursday.
Cabinet spokesman and the Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella disclosed that the total proposed expenditure for this year will amount to Rs.1.78 trillion. The budget will cover expenditure for the whole year which will include the amount approved to cover the period up to 22nd July 2010.
These details were exclusively reported in the May 16th edition of the Sunday Times, where the paper reported that the budget estimate for the whole year will be more than Rs.1.7 trillion exceeding the earlier target of Rs.1,262.5 billion.
Earlier on the directions of the President, the General Treasury made arrangements to withdraw Rs.440 billion from the Consolidated Fund to meet the expenses of the public service for the period of April 22 and July 22. A sum of Rs. 362 billion appropriated by the previous parliament for four months from January to April 2010 has already been spent, Finance Ministry officials said. |
