Pmi colombo chapter launches theirfirst workshop on "conflict resolution management "to be conducted in sri lanka on june 5 and 6.
Synopsis:
Conflict adds immense stress to our lives - professional or personal. It is present in every organization and unseeingly affects productivity, erodes working relationships and affects morale.
Generally any workplace is tension filled because differences persist on values, perceived goals, expectations for change and experiences. Studies have shown that 30 to 40% of an executive's time is spent in dealing with conflicts resulting into lower organizational output. Another study shows that over 65% of performance problems result from strained relationships between employees.
Personal strengths help us to eliminate conflict and stress from our lives. This also gives us self awareness and an understanding of others resulting in better communication skills. SDI will assist personally to handle such situation anywhere, anytime
The "SDI" is a conflict management and relationship-building tool which has been extensively used by countless Global companies from around the world such as Exxon, Chase Manhattan Bank, Citicorp, AT&T, Kodak, Dell.LexusInc for many orgnisations globally for years.
It is important that all Managers not only Project Managers know how to handle a situation as and when it happens before it blows into a full-scale "conflict which can interrupt the progress of the project or work".
Conflicts among interested parties or stakeholders in a project may not only cause damage to the progress, it may also result in projects being abandoned at a very high cost and impact to the society.
If we simply analyze the 'root cause", conflicts are due to simple reasons. Primarily each party has a vested interest of the project, situation or operation, with different objectives and opinions; however each party is trying to enforce to others "only their opinion" with a desire to "get it approved" by the others.
Firstly, avoid the team members, stakeholders, who have different opinions of the project results/objectives prior to initiation of the project,as much as possible, to reduce such unforeseen conflicts.
As human beings it is impossible to avoid 100% differences in multi-cultural, professional and social groups working together for a common objective.
Therefore, conflicts can have a positive side to it provided it is nipped before it becomes an issue; and obviously the Project Manager or CEO must know how to resolve them positively, so that this will "bind" the team and stakeholders, when it is resolved for the benefit of the Project or organization's progress. This shows that all parties are interested, and as many parties are interested in a single Project, this could be a "result, which brings in a new product or a service."
How do we resolve conflicts as a Project or a Business leader???
PMI Global Advance Management Education recommends the methodology of using "SDI tool" to develop "Inner Strength "to analyze and resolve conflicts for the benefit of the Project or results.
"Conflict Management with SDI Tool is the way to success "
The Resource persons are PMI Leadership Management Institute (USA) certified trainers with over 20 years experience in Management Education too.
This is a golden opportunity afforded by the PMI Colombo Chapter to take part in a workshop to practice the PMI recommended SDI Toolkit for conflict resolution. It comes highly recommended for HR managers, Team leaders, Consultants, and 'C' level officers. |
