Past Times As the Year 2000 begins, The Sunday Times too has been bitten by the Y2K bug and our special souvenir "PAST TIMES" seeks to record a new glimpses of an exciting, if tumultuous century gone by. We would like to steer clear of the controversy of whether the new millennium begins on January 1, 2000 or January 1, 2001. Or whether Sri Lanka, though predominantly a Buddhist country which records the year 2533, should be celebrating the third millennium only now? However, this country like all others, follows the Gregorian calendar and hence, a new century is inevitable, a source of excitement. Our souvenir issue, we hope, will take you back on a nostalgic journey, through the first person accounts and comeos of the past.
