Flicks, perms and diamanté
By Ruwanthi Herat Gunaratne
What's on the menu for hair and beauty for the festive season that's almost
upon us and indeed for the coming year? According to Cheryl Gooneratne
of Head masters, Millennium Park, soft perms are very much the focus.
No one seems to be going in for a set hair style, preferring to do their
hair for each day, to suit the occasion, says Cheryl. And all you hair-conscious
folk out there, be warned: Hair styles are said to get rather complicated
during the season for pleats and shapes are slowly being introduced.
Lengthwise, shoulder-length hair is being given a lot of prominence
- because of its multi purpose appeal.
Big hair is back in a big way but there remains a lot of emphasis on texture
and soft curls.
The flick is very much in fashion and this is no small flick but a pronounced
affair, achieved using tongs.
"Colours are back with a vengeance too," says Cheryl, 'but more along
the lines of copper and burgundy to complement our Asian skin."
When it comes to make-up, the earthy look is in, with lots of gloss
still playing a prominent role. Eye make-up is vital with a lot of blue
and green appearing on the runways. Matt lipstick, that was very popular
is on its way out while the light gloss is back.
And when it comes to accessories - small and dainty slides, brooches
and diamanté studs are very much in focus. But then again studs
on the face are slowly making their way out. Hair extensions are also swarming
the market, but have not become very popular due to the high price.
Nails run more along the lines of gelled, long and elegant nails. But
fake nails are also quite hip at the moment again because of the convenience
factor.
And what's up with some festive glamour for the guys? Men's hair is
worn very short with spikes and plenty of texture once again.
2002 is definitely not going to be wicked and wild but more along the
lines of soft, elegant with lots of style. But everything ultimately depends
on the wearer's looks and personality, advises Cheryl. |
