Dealing with a 21st century fox

Gathered in the Land of No Return, the past leaders of Paradise were discussing recent events in their former homeland…

"So," said Solomon to Junius, "your nephew has won after all…"

"And", Junius said, "all of you said he couldn't win an election…"

"Well", Sirima joined in, "he lost so many elections, didn't he?"

"But in the end he finally beat your daughter…" Dudley observed.

"That was only because your son and daughter got together…" John told Solomon.

"How can you say that?" Solomon argued; "if they got together earlier, this would never have happened…"

"But let's give the lad a chance," Dudley said, "after all, he has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time…"

"But what will your daughter do now?" Junius asked, "will she pack her bags and leave?"

"Why should she?" Sirima argued, "she too has got a mandate from the people…"

"If she doesn't leave," said Ranasinghe, joining in, "her only duty will be smiling for the cameras on ceremonial occasions…"

"That is all what Dearly Beloved did after you left," Junius said, "and he did it well…"

"But she isn't doing even that properly…" Dudley said.

"How can she, when all those who deserted her are now coming before her to take oaths…" Solomon pointed out.

"But that is her fault…" John said.

"Why do you say that?" Sirima wanted to know.

"Why," John said, "had she dissolved Parliament and called for elections just after she won the presidential elections, she would have got a clear majority in the House…"

"Well", Sirima said, "she didn't have anyone like Felix to advise her…"

"Why, Avamangala was there…" Junius said.

"Even if someone advised her," Dudley said, "she's so stubborn that she wouldn't have listened to that advice…"

"Do you think that your nephew will get along with my daughter?" Solomon asked Junius.

"I don't see any reason why they cannot do that..." Junius said.

"But she has lost round one" Dudley said.

"Why do you say that?" Solomon wanted to know.

"Why, she was virtually forced to give up the Defence portfolio…" Dudley

argued.

"But" Sirima argued, "she has won round two…"

"How can you say that?" Junius demanded.

"Why, she refused to give the Samurdhi portfolio to Seeni Bola…"

"But", Ranasinghe told Junius, "I'm sure your nephew will get it back in a few weeks…"

"Why do you say that?" Junius asked.

"Why, there's a lot in common between you and your nephew…" Ranasinghe said, "both are lawyers, both had to wait a long time to come to power and both were loyal to the party, even if they were overlooked for the party leadership at crucial times…"

"Then," John told Junius, "we must hope that he will usher in a new era of development just like you did…"

"But," said Solomon to Junius, "I hope that he doesn't repeat the same mistakes like you did, like ignoring the ethnic problem…"

"Don't worry about that…" Junius assured.

"Why do you say that?" everyone asked.

"Remember, how everyone called me the Twentieth Century Fox?" Junius asked, "Well, now I think you might have to deal with the Twenty-first Century Fox…"

No one disagreed.
