Asgiriya
prelate seeks CBK-Ranil consensus
The Asgiriya Sanga Sabhawa is to write to President Chandrika Kumaratunga
and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe advising them to shed political
differences in handling the current peace process.
The Asgriya
Mahanayake, Ven Udugama Buddahrakkitha Thera, told a group of senior
citizens and Buddhist organisation representatives that they hoped
to invite the President and the Prime Minister to Kandy to urge
them to settle their political differences.
The representatives
had called on the Mahanayake Thera to urge the President and the
government to ensure that sufficient steps were taken to protect
the rights of the Buddhists. They also called on the government
not to offer an interim administration to the LTTE and to take steps
to prevent unethical conversions.
They also wanted
the Mahanayake Thera to advise the President and the Premier to
refrain from accusing each other and getting involved in petty politics
thereby wasting public money and time.
The Mahanayake
Thera said he\ was not satisfied with the handling of the peace
process in some instances. |
