Global
campaign for small arms control
Oxfam International together with Amnesty International and International
Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) have joined forces to launch
"Control Arms" a global campaign on small arms control.
Control Arms
has been initiated to address the global arms trade, which takes
the life of a person every minute, which accounts for half a million
persons every year. The easy accessibility and proliferation of
small arms has taken a toll of the lives of millions of people every
year.
The global
arms trade is dangerously unregulated and allows arms to reach repressive
governments, opposition militant groups, human rights abusers and
criminals. Oxfam International and South Asia Arms Network (an IANSA
member) jointly launched the "Control Arms" campaign for
South Asia, in Colombo on October 9, 2003 to coincide with the international
launch taking place in over 50 countries around the world.
"Control
Arms" is campaigning for tougher controls on the arms trade,
by collecting one million faces for the "Million Faces Petition" |
