Shehan Ramanayake wins Chivas Regal Golf classic
Savithri Rodrigo of STRATYX was the firm wind under the twin wings
of a splendid promotion through great golf on the Ridgeways, excellent
pre-lunch lively togetherness and a splendid spirit of friendliness
through the award ceremony and Cocktails. The Royal Colombo Golf
Club stroke play competition sponsored by PERICYL of Chivas Regal
fame was an outstanding success while Biswajith Wickremasinghe and
Chithalka Ambrose combined superbly to make the night after twilight
a swaggering success under the mellow influence of the pride of
Scotland CHIVAS REGAL.

Ramanayake on the morning after the night before moved the cobwebs
away to stride into a smashing round of nett 69 to collect a handsome
Cut Glass Trophy and equally handsome bottle of CHIVAS REGAL. S.T.B.
Jayasinghe who beat Nirmal Hettiarachchi with a better back nine
came 2nd with nett 70.

Division
Neat and tidy youthful Toshikazu Inone played miserly with his 16
strokes to inch his way to a creditable victory with nett 69 and
beat a tremendous stroke player Chaminda Galagedera who was on par
71. Patrick Dias was beaten at the post with 71. Toshikazu was delighted
to pick up a bottle of CHIVAS the brand leader in Japan.
Tanokura
the Best
Teppei Tanokura was joyful throughout the evening giving shot by
shot commentaries in Japanese to his handful of colleagues after
his stunning nett 68, the best for the day. He beat that huge man
Dharmarathane Herath by one stroke. Attractive Kumari Herath applauded
lustily and took good care of the Bottle of Chivas Regal.
Joe
beats Norman
Joe Perera trounced his arch rival Norman Chandraratne in a friendly
contest and then the two of them toasted each other with Chivas
Regal hospitality. It was great to see the pool players in action
again. B.G. Lalith Kumara shot a sound one par 70 beating J.J. Kumar
who shot 73. S.T.B. Jayasinghe collected another posh bottle with
11 strokes on the par 3 holes beating Ananda Jayasekera who struck
12 splendid strokes. Mithun Nandasena took 25 strokes to cover 6
hidden holes and that stallion Ananda Jayasekera was closest to
the pin on the 9th. Jayasinghe and Jayasekera will celebrate with
2 bottles of CHIVAS in REGAL style on Monday the 13th at 7 p.m.
Awards
and Cocktails
The Awards ceremony was sleek. Kumar Boralessa deputising for the
indisposed Captain Sarath Piyaratne shot a good line in his speech
which included massive thanks to PERICYL and Lanka Distilleries
the Harry Jayawardena empire for their splendid sponsorship. Biswajith
Wickremasinghe responding was impressive.
He said among
other references that he was delighted to be of assistance to progress
golf and promised to seriously consider an extended sponsorship.
It was quite a lively party and much credit to Chithalka Ambrose
who was behind the scene after twilight and next time you see Lal
de Mel at Cocktail time please capture him and you will find him
excellent company.
Disaster
Zone
This preserved area was loaded with a harvest of casualties, massive
centurions and colourful confetti producers. Janak Hirdaramani's
effort was factory fresh. The Doctors J.B. Peiris, Shabir Akbarally,
M.M. Ismail and Denison Saparamadu contributed hellishly while A.H.
Sheriffdeen, Hemal Fernando and C.Thurairaja were all smiles free
from distress. |
