Bollywood’s
Zeenat Amam in Colombo
Popular
Bollywood star Zeenat Aman will be a guest of honour at ‘Saree
Splendour 2003’, one of the glittering events in Colombo’s
social calendar, which features the ‘saree’, as an item
of haute couture on October 31 at the Hilton Colombo.
Star of hit
movies such as ‘Satyam Shivam Sunderam’, ‘Hare
Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Quarbani’, ‘Mano Rama’
etc. Zeenat Aman is expected to be joined by a few other leading
ladies of the Bollywood silver screen at this glamour event.
Presented by
Prenita Fashions, more than a hundred specially handpicked and one-of-a-kind
sarees from India’s fashion capitals Mumbai, Bangalore and
Chennai will be showcased in this grand fashion extravaganza to
be choreographed by Senaka de Silva and expertly styled by Harris
Wijeyesinghe, themselves top names in the Sri Lankan fashion arena.
Driving force
behind the show, sisters Preethi and Nimmi Fernando say, “The
saree is multi-purpose, multi-dimensional piece of fabric which
can be draped in numerous ways and with innumerable accessories,
yet, at the same time, retaining its inimitable Eastern charm and
mystique”, “Needless to say, the dazzling creations
of Vogue Jewellers, our ‘Jewellery Partner,’ will bring
in an added dimension to the show”, Preethi added.
As has been
the practice in the past, proceeds from “Saree Splendor”
will be channelled to the ‘Maw Sevena’, a Home for Destitute
Boys run by the Legion of Mary of the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka.
Situated in
Mattakuliya, this home was established in 1976 and today gives shelter
to nearly 30 inmates aged between b and 14 years. President of the
Home Maurice Lord said that the Home gives the children a special
vocational training before attempting to integrate them into mainstream
society. |
