crush hapless St.Benedict’s by innings
Ananda scored the only outright win this week-end when
they marked their fifth for the season by beating St. Benedict's
at Ananda Mawatha, yesterday. Besides the team effort, Ananda skipper
Mahela Udawatte's knock of 154 not out was also significant. Besides
that a superb allround performance by Devan Shalika Karunanayake
165 and 5 for 36 and knock of 119 by St. Sebastian's batsman Dilan
Cooray were the other impressive individual performances for the
week-end.
Ananda
medium pacer Charith Jayaweera ( 4 for 50 ) and off spinner Achela
Ranasinghe (4 for 59 ) paired off to guide Ananda to their fifth
win of the season as they reduced St. Benedict's to their fourth
consecutive outright defeat by an inning and 39 runs at Ananda Mawatha
yesterday.
For
Ananda in form batsman and skipper Mahela Udawatte cracked an unbeaten
154 with twenty fours and four sixes while T. Kumarasinghe made
54 not out. The pair also put on an unfinished stand of 180 runs
for the third wicket.
Ananda
who were 222 for 2 overnight in reply to the Benedictine first innings
total of 142 did not lose a single wicket in the morning session
as they declared their first innings at 322 for 2, before lunch.
For
St. Benedict's number six batsman R. Ranaweera fought a lone battle
in the second innings to remain unbeaten on 58 with eight hits to
the fence.

saves St. Sylvester's
A fighting half century by Dananjaya Karunaratne of St. Sylvester's
saved them from defeat at the hands of St. Sebestian's in their
inter school cricket match concluded at St. Sebestian's College
grounds at Moratuwa yesterday.
Continuing
from their overnight score of 24 for 4, St. Sylvester's were all
out for 93 in reply to St. Sebastian's first innings score of 264
for 9. Dilan Cooray was the top scorer with 119.
Following
on St. Sylvester's were 219 for 7 at close. At one stage St. Sylvester's
were 124 for 5 but Dananjaya Karunaratne (54) and Chanaka Ranaweera
(39) put on a 94 runs partnership for the sixth wicket and saved
the match.

of DSS who was on 34 had to be rushed to the hospital with a knee

A delightful half century from fifteen year old Sumal Premasiri
and good contributions from the front-liners enabled an injury hit

at Peradeniya.
Premasiri and Rohitha Karunaratne put on 79 for the 4th wicket and
this helped the team to their impressive score.
The
visitors finished on 57-2, with opener Udara unbeaten on 35.

A truly magnificent all round performance by the in-form Shalika
Karunanayake (165 and 63, 5-36) enabled Maliyadeva to dominate their
match against Dharmaraja at the Welagedera Stadium.
Karunanayake's
heroics saw the Rajans bowled out for a meager 141 in reply to his
teams 307. However, the home team did not exercise the follow-on
option.
It seemed as though the Rajans had still not recovered from the
shock treatment administered by Trinity last weekend.

An enterprising knock of 83 by Richmond skipper Chamal Wijayarupa

306 for 9 declared against Dharmapala Pannipitiya on the opening
day of their Elephant Lemonade inter-school cricket match played
at Pannipitiya. The Palians in their turn were badly placed on 56
for 7. The match will be continued at 9.30 a.m. today.
