Hosting Iftars and earning
Brownie points
By M.B. Ghouse, Moratuwa
Apropos of Odds and Ends - Guess who did not come
for iftar - of TST of Sunday October 1, 2006, please be informed
that hosting iftar (to break fast during Ramazan) is a meritorious
act by the faithful Muslim. For the fasting faithful Muslim during
iftar, sharing it with another is blessed with enhanced merits.
On this occasion, the Indian HC was an inappropriate
host, and has nothing to do with wealth or the quantum of Muslim
populace referring to the hosting by the Saudi Ambassador.
The so called VIPs deserved to be named for they
should have observed protocol and excused themselves from the conflicting
inappropriate host, without causing embarrassment and empty tables
at the Indian HC.
This is also a season where dubious hosts proliferate
to earn political or egotistical brownie points and the wrath of
the Almighty, instead of His Bountiful Blessings.
These VIPs and their coterie instead should think
of the unfortunate Muslims in the Eastern Province and channel their
resources there.
This will surely earn the blessings of the Almighty
in this holy month of Ramazan.
May your tribe increase, Odds and Ends Columnist.
