‘Ashanthi and
Chinthy’: KIT's new Brand Ambassadors
By Sanath Weerasuriya
Sri Lanka singing sensations Ashanthi and Chinthy
recently signed up with Dialog as the newest Brand Ambassadors for
the mobile giant's mega pre-paid brand KIT.
Ashanthi de Alwis has been described with varying
labels as Sri Lanka's own soul diva, mistress of mellow, the queen
of slick lyrics, the revolutionary of fusion, and holds the record
of being the first, youngest and only female artiste in the country
to be signed to an international record label (Sony BMG).
Her musical roots lie in Classical, Operatic, Broadway
and Gospel for which she began training at the age of nine. Her
musical talents also include the world of advertising, production
and songwriting. During the last two years, Ashanthi toured Europe,
the Mediterranean, North America, Australasia, the Middle East,
most of the Asian subcontinent and the Far East wowing her growing
and appreciative audiences.
Chinthy of ‘Sokaree’ fame, who initially
began studies at the Ceylon Hotel School switched over to music
in which he has excelled to date. The first tracks he produced were
recorded in the attic of his Negombo home. This attic was later
converted into a modern recording studio and named "AttiC".
With his devoted music teacher mother, Chinthy's exposure to music
began early in life. His first track was recorded when he was 17
years old in 1997.
While in Australia he was involved in a funk band
in Melbourne, playing for numerous Sri Lankan parties and events.
He went onto study sound engineering at the BOX HILL Tafe Institute.
After a lot of hard work, he finally released his album that proved
to be a astounding success.
The album contained hit singles such as ‘Naree",
‘Chanchalai’ ‘Andura Rayen’ and the biggest
hit ‘Sokaree’ was sold out on the day of its release.
Ashanthi says she is proud to be a brand ambassador
for Dialog and looks forward to this new partnership bridging music
and technology as they both go together to reach new heights.
Chinthy adds that with Dialog having done a lot
for the development of the country, it gave him great pride and
pleasure that Dialog has recognised his talents as an artiste.
Commenting on the Company's decision to sign up
the two stars, Nushad Perera General Manager, Sales and Marketing
at Dialog says, "We have always had the ability to pick future
stars. We were the first to recognise the talent of Bathiya and
Santhush and sign them to our brand.
The same foresight applies to Ashanthi and Chinthy.
They are young, energetic, and immensely talented, and have gained
the respect and adoration of the younger generation in Sri Lanka".
Dialog is currently planning an extensive campaign
for KIT, which will feature jingles composed and sung by both stars.
Added to this are also television commercials, press ads, outdoor
campaigns and website campaigns featuring their music and images.
The duo will also participate in KIT branded events throughout 2007.
