Antonian Choir: An angelic blend of harmony
This January, the Choir of St.Anthony's College Kandy will present 'On Eagle's Wings - 2007' in Colombo on 27 of January at 7.00 pm at the Bishop's College Auditiorium.
This is the very first time the Antonian Choir comes into action, after their magnificent performance in Kandy last July. They are the newly crowned Champions at the recently concluded All Island Western Music Choir Competition.
The first public performance of the choir was held on the 22 of July in 2006 at the College auditorium, after a lapse of many years. It brought on stage, the diversity of talents of the student body representing all age groups, both from the primary and the senior sections.
This Concert ‘Launched’ the ‘Antonian Choir’ on its journey towards returning to the pristine glory it enjoyed under the able guidance of the late Mr. Cyril Brown, who is remembered even today for his commitment and high standards set in the golden era of this choir in the 60's.
The present choir has over 80 members. 'On Eagle’s Wings 2006' brought on stage a blend of music and song from contemporary ballads to Jazz and Pop and even Pop music
This year, the Antonian Choir will present 'On Eagles Wings 2007' in a 2-hour show which would include a mixture of Choral, Gospel, Contemporary, Jazz, Pop and even Rock music. It would showcase choral masterpieces such as veni, creator spiritus - most famous of hymns, Ave Maria - Old & New versions and Worship Songs etc.
The Show will see the Antonians performing the works of Garfunkel when they sing the beauties such as Bridge Over Troubled Water & Sound of Silence in Gregorian Chants.
The highlight of the evening will be the glittering moment when they sing their hearts out to the exodus song - This Land' for which they won the Champions Award at the All Island Western Music Choir Competition.
The audience can expect the true spirit of harmony when the Antonians sing.
'Acapella' for La Montanara and the modern hit In The Still of the Night by Boyz 2 Men.
These young men will reflect the true Sri Lankan flavour of of music as they will sing a mixture of old and new Sinhala songs which have captured most of our hearts through generations.
They are sure to rock the audience when they perform the rock-hit We Will Rock You and to balance the tempo of the night, they will conclude by singing The World in Union - the official theme song of rugby world cup 1999.
Tickets for the show will be available at entrance priced at Rs.1000/-, Rs.750/-, Rs.500- and Rs.250/=. Tickets are also available at Sponge Pastry Shop, Colombo 3 and Mabroc Traders, Colombo 4.
