Library auditorium yet to come up
One year after the Kandy Public Library auditorium was burnt down in a fire and pledges made that one of the most modern libraries would be put up, no action has yet been taken to reconstruct the building.Kandy Mayor L.B.Aluvihare told Kandy Times he hopes to get help from India, China or Japan to rebuild the library as the council does not have the money to fund its reconstruction.

One of the most well-known theatre productions of recent times, is scheduled to now make its mark in Kandy, offering theatre-goers a rare dose of constructive criticism on a few telling Sri Lankan social issues. Though having toured abroad on numerous occasions and having fully impressed foreign audiences, this will be the first time the performance will be staged outside Colombo.
 
Thilanka : A Jewel in the Kandyan crown
A few deacdes ago, Kandy was not a busy tourist destination like nowadays and there were few hotels to accomodate them. Apart from traditional names, Hotel Thilanka was one of the oldest hotels to join the new Kandyan era of the post tourism boom in the seventies.It started as a guest house in the mid eighties, which turned out to be one of the most sought after destinations in Kandy.
 
Kandy sevens on stage again
To George Simpkin, one time technical director of Sri Lanka rugby goes the credit for having ‘fathered’ the Singer SriLankan Airlines Rugby Sevens. Simpkin, who was one of the organizers of the Hong Kong Sevens which began in 1976, deemed it a great idea to stage a sevens tournament to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Kandy Sports Club in 1999.
