Kambiz Naficy’s Yoga for success

Kambiz Naficy, Persian poet and founder of an international meditation society called The Joy of Life Organization (www.joyoflifeorg.com) will be in Sri Lanka this month to conduct meditation classes.
The Joy of life Organization has branches in Iran, Sri Lanka, India and Canada. Here Kambiz Naficy answers a few questions on concentration.

Q: Kambiz, why would a meditation master want to speak about a strenuous effort like concentration.
KN: Intense concentration through sheer willpower can indeed be fatiguing if you force your brain muscles to become fixated on one point.

Through Joy of Life's breathing techniques, I approach the matter of concentration in an effortless way. I teach ancient Yogic breathing techniques that change your blood composition from acid to alkaline. When alkaline blood floods the brain, the mind naturally bathes in a focused state of silence.

Q: Can you be more specific about that state of silence, and how it relates to concentration?

KN: When your blood composition changes, your brain-waves which reflect the intensity of your thought-activity also quiet down. These brain waves can be measured by an E.E.G. (Electroencephalogram) instrument. As brain-wave activity quiets down, the frontal lobes of your brain, normally bombarded by external stimuli, become more passive toward external distractions.

As a result, you develop what we call an "inward gaze." In this state of inner-focus, we can walk into intense activity, such as entering a busy shopping mall, yet, rest in our cocoon of tranquility, totally focused on whatever we want to concentrate on.

In his Joy of Life workshops for advanced students in Colombo from August 13-15, Kambiz will be integrating the ancient science of Kriya Yoga with modern holistic sciences such as NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), creative visualization, affirmations, and understanding of the power of the subconscious mind.

The theme of the workshop is Yoga for Success in Daily Life. The workshop will be at the Taj Samudra Hotel, from 6.30 - 9.30 pm. For more details please call 0775735842
