The Institute of Western Music and Speech held its Young Musician of the Year contest at the Russian Centre recently. The contest was open to pianists and string instrumentalists in the following categories- junior, intermediate and senior for the former and junior and senior for the latter.

Eshan Bernard Denipitiya, a pupil of Mrs. Ruvini Hapugalle Gunesekera won the Young Musician of the Year award.
The other winners were- Piano: Junior-Demintha Fonseka (pupil of Mrs. Ruvini Hapugalle Gunesekera), Intermediate-Eshan Bernard Denipitiya, Senior- Renushi Anne Perera (student of Bridget Halpe).
