Guiding the students in the correct pathway

Two more groups of students from Royal College get support from Serendib Toastmasters Club, to improve their presentation skills. The inauguration of the 2nd and 3rd batches of the Communication and Leadership Skills Program conducted by Serendib Toastmasters Club in Collaboration with the Royal College UNSECO club and Peoples Bank, ceremoniously got underway on Novembe 3 with the auspices of several dignitaries and enthusiastic students at the College auditorium.

At the welcome address, the principal of Royal College Mr.Upali Gunesekara said that he was indeed delighted that they were able to start the 2nd and 3rd batches in quick succession, which he attributed to the interest shown by students who were keen to enroll themselves into the program.

He further extended his sincere thanks to Serendib Toastmasters club , the organization behind this mammoth task, the sponsors Wijeya Newspapers Ltd, and Peoples Bank for their generous contribution, the coordinating teachers; Ms. Disna Ranjani & Ms. Harsha Wijesekera, and finally the students for the support, assistance and keen interest shown in initiating the 2nd phase of the Communication and Leadership skills program at Royal College.

The principal also hoped that the program would harness the expected results by guiding the students in the correct path towards making their future successful.

"There is more to learning than the languages and subjects you learn within the class room. Extra curricular and development activities help you face day to day to challenges that you need to tackle on your own when you enter the society. This communication and leadership program makes you capable of putting forward your ideas in a convincing manner, allowing you to shine above the rest," said Director of Seylan Bank and the Treasurer of the RCUC (Royal College Unseco Club) Mr.Ajantha Madurapperuma. He also thanked Mr. Deepal Abeyasekara, Head of Marketing at Peoples Bank, for arranging for the sponsorship.

He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the principal of Royal College Mr.Upali Gunesekara for shouldering the responsibility and giving the organizers and the sponsors the encouragement to go ahead with development activities such as this leadership development program.

The Communication and leadership skills program will be initiated among Ordinary and Advance Level students. Bathiya Hettiarachchi, the Governor - Division A - (District 82) expressing his views during the inauguration ceremony pointed out, "Toastmasters is a place where miracles happen. Lots of people have found their inner voice through Toastmasters which is an organization that helps develop your interpersonal skills, communication skills and leadership abilities. You need to acquire these skills if you want to successfully market yourself in the private sector. The students have made a wise decision to join this program, so grab the opportunity develop your competence, confidence, develop a positive attitude and become outstanding speech crafters."

Meanwhile, Mr.Sunil De Silva, the President of Serendib Toastmasters club/ Director - Chemanex ltd, while addressing the gathering stressed the importance of effective communication adding that a good communicator is a good leader. Mr.Silva also urged the students' to acquire these skills and become productive leaders of the country.
