How do you like to spend an evening with Steve Waugh? Yes, the former Australian cricket captain. Ah, but that’s not all. You get to showcase your cricketing brains too.
Well, you’ll get all this and more at Quiz it and Rock it, presented by Aspirations Education Pvt Ltd.
“This is an extension of the “Pathbreakers’ idea,” says Deepamala Abeysekera, Academic Director of Aspirations Education.
And as to why it is none other than Steve Waugh, she says, “he himself is a pathbreaker in the field of cricket. He didn’t have everything on the plate. He had to keep at it. He faced many challenges, but he showed determination and commitment which paved the way for him to achieve greater heights in cricket.”
Steve Waugh will speak on how he became a pathbreaker in the field of cricket and this will be followed by a “jazzy crick quiz.”
Explaining the event further, Deepamala says schools can present three students who are well versed with cricket to take up the team challenge in the Cricket Quiz with Steve Waugh. The students will face “rapid questions” in three rounds with Steve Waugh throwing questions at them. A winning school will be chosen at the end of the quiz.
However, she urges interested schools to act fast as space is limited and selections would be made on a first come-first serve basis.
Alternatively, you can witness daring contestants rise up to the challenge and testing their knowledge. “A limited number of tokens will be distributed among schools. Or you can even collect tokens at Coffee shops. Once you get your hands on the token, you need to come to the Aspirations Education office and collect your personalized invitation,” Deepamala says.
The award ceremony of the recently concluded Pathbreakers Season II – Aspirations Conquest will also take place during the event, she adds.
Aspirations Education is a career guidance service institute, which represents universities and institutions in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, UK and China.
It also conducts many programmes and services for youth, helping them realize their aspirations. Some of these projects include Pathbreakers – seasons one and two – a programme involving students and taking a television quiz plus reality TV show format. In addition, the Aspirations Foundation provides scholarships to over a 100 rural students and many international fairs are regularly organized for students.
“In all these we try to make use of the extensive contacts we have internationally, so that we could serve the youth of this country who may or may not be able to travel abroad to realize their aspirations,” says Deepamala.
Continuing their service provided for youth of this country, the Aspirations Youth Council will also be inaugurated with Steve Waugh, through which projects will be conducted involving Vice Chancellors, professors, doctors, experts, students and associations of the universities and institutions Aspirations works with.
“The members of this Council will be called ‘Pathbreakers’ and they will engage in a diverse range of vibrant activities aimed at addressing pressing problems faced by societies,” she says.
Deepamala adds, “Await the third season of Pathbreakers with more excitement.”
