Veteran actress and screen queen Malani Fonseka, film and teledrama director Dharmasena Pathiraja and musician Rohana Weerasinghe are to be felicitated for their service to the television industry at a special celebration held on the 15th anniversary of Tele Makers Guild (TMG).
TMG, an organization comprising television artistes formed in 1993 has invited all the artistes to gather at 4 pm on February 19 Mahaweli Centre, Colombo-7 to felicitate the three artistes who would be awarded with honorary membership of the Guild.
The Chairman of the TMG, film and teledrama director, Sudath Rohana said that the selection of the three artistes was based on their contribution to the cinema and mini-screen from almost the inception of the television industry.
“It was Dharmasena Pathiraja’s teledrama ‘Kadulla’ which proved that this medium of art could be used for far more important purposes like creating a dialogue among the masses and communicate very powerful social and political messages rather than as a mode of light entertainment,” Sudath Rohana said.
Malani’s contribution to the country’s cinema with the international acclaim she won and her roles in the small screen is praiseworthy and it is fitting that we express our gratitude with an honorary membership of TMG.
At this event TMG is also planning to release a book on 30-year-old television industry of Sri Lanka and give descriptions on important television artistes who contributed to the development of this art. In addition a directory of television artistes will also be released at this event.
