YES action at Hikka

The Hikka Beach Festival was a programming task that YES-FM was all geared for. Sri Lanka’s popular Hit Music Station backed by their ‘never say die-nothing is impossible’ Master Control Room (MCR) made history by broadcasting live from ground zero of the festival, the farthest any local network has ever staged nor dared.

From 6.00am Thursday till 7.00pm Saturday, 100% of normal programming (music, commercials and the crew’s crazy banter) was transmitted from its sunny shores and it was an experienced no one will soon forget. From the engineering department taking on the enormous task to the sales, marketing and promotions division and the crew experiencing how it is to come to work at the beach…

For three days, YES-FM broadcast from the sunny shores, ate, mingled, danced, swam, sunbathed, drummed and even played beach cricket to the pulsating energy of the Hikka Fest.

First, taking on the controls of a console they were so used to, speaking onto microphones that are so familiar BUT seeing the endless blue right before their very eyes. Then came the people, it was the same friendly, welcoming feel but now they came in shirts and shorts.

‘We are not just out of the Depanama studio, we were not just in Colombo – but were in the center of the mother of all beach fest’ said the head of MCR.
