Liezl Fernando, talented young Soloist, had their maiden performances with Sri Lanka Symphony Orchestra last week.
The 52nd season of the Sri Lanka Symphony Orchestra and the inaugural performance of the Young Soloists’ Concert was an achievement for the young talent in Sri Lanka. This concert celebrates the outstanding talent of young Sri Lankan musicians. Five highly talented young musicians were in action at the concert this year.
Liezl Fernando, a newcomer to this arena is a product of two such families, where her paternal grandfather, the Reverend Lucien G.B. Fernando and maternal grandmother Dr. Nillie Zhang of blessed memory, have blazed a trail for this young soloist.
The majestic pipe organs of St. Michael’s church, Kollupitiya and St. Andrew’s church, Galle Face have resounded with Father Lucien’s music during the performances such as Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Hayden’s Creation where he accompanied international vocalists such as Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears.
Dr. Nellie Zhang too was a much loved organist at the Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.
The fifteen year old Liezl performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto # 20 in D minor (K466). This piano concerto was the most historically popular and influential among the keyboard concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. |
