'Pears Safe Hands' renovates maternity and children's ward

The newly renovated maternity and children's ward and clinic, at the Nikaweratiya Base Hospital, sponsored by Unilever's 'Pears Safe Hands Fund,' were opened to patients this month, the company said.

"The Pears Safe Hand Fund has given the hospital's maternity and children's unit a wonderful facelift, giving us the opportunity to provide health services to our community in a better equipped and cleaner manner. Unilever Sri Lanka has been able to understand the needs of a community and their undertaking of such socially responsible projects is an inspiration and example to us all," said the Medical Director of the Nikaweratiya Base Hospital, Dr. Arjuna Tilakaratne.

Pears Brand Manager, Wathsala Aluthgedara, explained that Unilever channels 25 cents into the Safe Hands Fund at each consumer purchase of a Pears Baby product. The renovation of the Nikaweratiya Base Hospital's maternity and childcare unit was the 14th such project undertaken by the Pears Safe Hands Fund in order to improve maternal and child health facilities in the country.
