No breakthrough yet in the probe on Shyamlal Rajapaksa death

Shyamlal Rajapaksa, a trial attorney at the Arusha-based International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), whose body was found at his residence in Tanzania on Wednesday, was due to submit a report on war crimes, his mother Lalitha Rajapaksa told The Sunday Times last night.

She said that so far there had been no breakthrough in the investigations and they were awaiting the report about the cause of the death.

Mr Rajapaksa's body was due to be flown to Sri Lanka this morning and will be kept at A.F. Raymond parlour before being moved to his residence at No. 25 Flower Road Colombo 7. The funeral will take place tomorrow at the General Cemeraty Borella.

Ms. Rajapaksa said her son was completing the report on war crimes at the time of his death. Meanwhile the Tanzanian Police were trying to track down two visitors who were last seen at the residence of Mr. Rajapaksa.

The watchman had initially refused to open the gate for the two unidentified visitors, but Mr. Rajapaksa ordered that they be let in.

Regional Police Commander, Basilio Matei told Hirondelle Agency a postmortem would be conducted in the presence of Mr. Rajapaksa's relatives and High Commission officials. He was the son of late Health Minister George Rajapaksa and brother of Nirupama Rajapaksa, MP.
