Generally you receive authority over another person or a group of persons due to reasons as age, education and position. Power, influence and clout are words that are one and the same with authority. Your mind could consider authority in many ways. You may believe that you have power over people placed under your authority due to relationship, position or law. You may feel like controlling such people. Unknowingly we assume that those under our authority are inferior. Such concepts cloud the mind with mistaken authority.
 No Peace
The mind filled with authority has no peace. Authority works to guard one’s rules, rights and privileges. Such a person works hard. Free thinking appears a challenge to him. He is inclined to suppress free thoughts and put to action thoughts that save his authority. Such a person is not free.
Society imposes rules
Society imposes rules upon its citizens. Man is free to accept or reject such rules. Society is built by man and he has power to live without being limited. Society is not truth. It is a phenomena developed by man for his own security. When man is free from concepts he does not require such security. Why? Because, he does not feel insecure. A free mind has no challenge. It is not challenged and it needs no security.
A silent process
It is easy to be free from society when silent. If not you may become a threat to others. Other people may feel that you are threatening them. When your mind is totally free you will be free from other views, conditions and control. Plants grow into giant trees, silently. Similarly you are capable of growing silently to become a massive force. No person notices a plant that grows silently. The plant attracts attention of society only when it becomes a big tree. It becomes strong enough to withstand most outward pressure. You could similarly grow, silently. Society will notice you only when you are big and strong. Then you are free. You would then be strong enough to endure all pressure directed to you.
Let go of your urge to resist pressure that is directed from outside. Set aside the inner urge to correct society. The nature of society is governed by the nature of its people. When freedom of the mind arises in a majority of its people, society dissolves. A majority of people who respect others and one’s own freedom will then exist. This often happens effortlessly.
Delegating freedom
It is easy to delegate responsibility on how to live to a person, norm, culture or religion. To say "so and so says I must do this" or "our culture or religion expects me to be like this" is easy. There is nothing wrong in doing so. This is the way most people live. Handing over responsibility to a higher power is easy. You develop a mind that you are under the authority of a superior power or wisdom. If you decide that this is how you wish to live, then please do so. However realize that you are then living from a mind under another's authority. Such a mind is not free. You will live under the authority that governs your mind.
Able to be free
Assuming authority and being under authority could take away freedom of your mind. Once you realize the subtle authorities that influence your life, you will appreciate the wonder of being free. You will know deep in your heart that you are able to be totally free. You will acknowledge your power to make choices, make use of popular teachings and finally be free and do what you really want to do. You then become one with the universe creating the life you desire deep within.
