Oman Air’s Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Gihan Karunaratna told the Sunday Times FT that by summer 2010 Oman Air will fly seven frequencies from Colombo to Muscat. “Presently we are flying four times a week on this route. By April we plan to fly all seven frequencies,” he said, on the sidelines of a media conference to launch the flight early this week.
Oman Air which operated in Sri Lanka since 1991 pulled out in 2003 due to low yields generated from Sri Lanka. “We were also short of aircraft and therefore we took measures to close all routes that did not make profit,” Mr. Karunaratna said, but was very upbeat about 2010 and the tourism boom for in the country.
He said that Oman Air’s fleet by the end of 2009 will be fifteen B737-800s, two A330-200 and two A330-300s. During 2010-2011 three additional A330-300s are set to be delivered to the Middle Eastern airline. |
