The key word at Cora Abraham Art Classes is ‘freedom' - The freedom to translate your emotions through an artistic medium, the ability to transcend precincts of shape and form and the free will to simply create, with no reserve. 'Colourful Expressions' the art exhibition commemorating the art school's 60th anniversary showcases creations from the students of the school while celebrating education through art.
The late Cora Abraham, a pioneer teacher in education through art remained firm in her belief that every child is gifted, has the ability to create and should be given ample opportunity to express themselves.
Laaiqah Mohamed (13) who will be exhibiting her work explained that she likes to broaden her scope and paint different things. "It has helped me in many ways and has also helped me develop different art skills," she said, speaking about her experience at the school.
Ameerah Salie (12) and Waahidah Mohamed (12) have been dabbling in art for seven years and agree that the friendly atmosphere in the school is conducive and helps fuel their imagination. "There is a lot of creativity and talent in our exhibition. And it's ours, not anyone else's," smiles Ameerah.
The exhibition will feature various aesthetic aspects of art - from colourful collages, sketches to paintings in mixed medium and sculptures. A limited number of original calendars, each different from the other, with the children's creations will also be available for purchase at the exhibition. |
