Established in January 2009, VIPER has experienced a phenomenal growth in the first year itself of being an institute that provides courses on Professional English and Tamil language to employees in the public and private sectors.

Advanced Diploma in English for Professionals (ADEP), Diploma in English for Professionals (DEP), Diploma in Tamil Language (DTL), Diploma in English for Teachers (DET) are a few courses on offer.
The founder, Mr. I.S. Jayarathne, former Head of the Language Studies Division, SLIDA, coordinates and conducts all the courses while leading a professional panel of consultants both local and foreign.

The courses are tailor-made to suit the language requirements of each target group, and the content is carefully selected to develop productive skills i.e. Speaking and Writing Skills of the learner.

Participatory teaching/learning methods are being adopted and the serene environment where the institute is located facilitates learning.

Advanced Diploma in English for Professionals (ADEP)
ADEP is designed for Executives and Senior Executives in the Public and Private sectors and it covers areas like Presentation and Public Speaking Skills, Negotiation Skills, Professional Meeting Techniques, Advanced Report Writing Skills, Effective Conversational Skills, Advanced Reading Skills etc. The year long course would fine tune the language skills of the learner to position himself effectively and confidently in any form of professional and general speech community. Periodical assessments would ensure learners' acquisition rate and rectify any short coming that is identified.

Diploma in English for Professionals (DEP)
In Sri Lanka, majority of the employed needs to fine tune their oral and written competencies. DEP that we offer at Venura has been designed with that premise in mind to address all such language requirements of executives and junior executives in the public and private sector organizations including the banking sector.

The course covers all the four skills - i.e. Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, and it provides alround knowledge in Business Communication Skills. One advantage that public sector employees have in this course is that it covers all the areas that they need for EB examinations, which is compulsory for their promotions in the service. Diploma in Tamil Language (DTL)
With the recent demand for Second Language competency among employees in the public sector, this course has been carefully designed to improve both oral and written language skills of the learner and a highly qualified native speaker faculty is facilitating the classes.

A limited number would be selected for this course and the course includes both in class and field learning process where participants would be integrated with native speaker communities in the North, East and in the Estates where Tamil community is dominant.

Diploma in English for Teachers (DET)
Teachers of English and the teachers of other subjects are enrolled for this course. While teachers of English would follow a course specially designed for them to enhance their professional skills, the other teachers would be offered a General Language Skills Development Programme.

The course for Teachers of English would include Teaching Methodologies, Lesson Planning, Educational Psychology, Teaching Practice etc. The general competency programme covers areas of language that one needs for effective communication purposes.

Apart from these courses, Venura Institute of Professional English and Research (VIPER) has introduced a series of courses for the working and non-working people including the school leavers.
