A Sri Lankan mobile operator announced this week that it had "successfully tested" a HSPA+ product which it plans to roll out when "the market is ready for commercial launch".
The statement by Mobitel, a subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom, further noted that the HSPA+ trial which "supports up to 28.8Mbps downlink" was due to Huawei, a company that upgraded Mobitel's infrastructure and ultimately led Mobitel to offer HSPA (with its promise of download speeds up to 14.4 Mbps).
Mobitel said the enhancement to HSPA was a result of MIMO technology using "multiple antennas in both the handset and HSPA network to split the radio signal into multiple streams".
Additionally, the statement quoted Mobitel Chief Executive Suren Amarasekera as saying that the country has achieved "yet another first in the region with Mobitel's HSPA+ deployment". |
