Taking the local fashion industry into international limelight, the HSBC sponsored fashion extravaganza of the year – the Colombo Fashion Week 2010 will once again come alive at Colombo Hilton on February 5, 6 and 7.
The objective of the show is to promote Sri Lanka as a South Asian fashion destination and to strengthen fashion ties between global retailers and the local designers by way of exposure and interaction.
Presented at the event will be 17 collections of local designers such as Kanchana Thalpawila (KT Brown), Yolanda Aluvihare, Darshi Keerthisena (Buddhi Batiks) LICC Jeans, Stringhopper and Arugam Bay Beachwear and Fahad ( Middle Finger) who have carved a niche in the fashion sphere. Significantly, many of them first made their mark at the CFW.
In addition, there will be five new designers showcasing their potential at CFW 2010.
This year HSBC CFW 2010 has signed an MoU with Russian Fashion Week, Miami International Fashion Week and Malaysian Fashion Week.
“In 2010 we are attempting to break new ground which will immensely benefit Sri Lankan designers and the related industry,” said Founder and Director, CFW, Ajai V. Singh.
This year’s event will also feature top international designers from Spain, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Sanchita Ajjampur (India), Alecca Carrano from (Italy), Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci (UK) are just to name a few top international trend setters gracing the event.
Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Bernard Goonetilleke said that CFW 2010 will be a tremendous boost for the fashion industry and for tourism in particular.
“The show is covered by local as well as international media; so the publicity that we get as a destination as a result of the event is important. We can showcase our local talents like batiks, beeralu and dumbara weavings and get them into international markets,” he said. |
