| Australia, Spain level after first day |
ADELAIDE, Australia, Feb 6, 2010 (AFP) - Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues levelled the Fed Cup World Group II first round tie against Australia with a straight sets win over Casey Dellacqua here on Saturday.
Medina Garrigues, ranked 32, had few problems with the 276th-ranked Dellacqua, winning 6-2, 6-3 in one hour, 27 minutes at Memorial Drive. Australia's world number 11, Samantha Stosur, put the host nation ahead after coming from a set down to defeat Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. |

Dr. Sanjaya Wijesekera, one of Kandy’s best known physicians and a cricketer of no mean repute, received belated recognition for his services to cricket recently.
A former St. Thomas’ Matale captain, a Matale CC cricketer and a consistent performer for the University of Peradeniya, Dr. Wijesekera played in the same team as Major General Savindra Silva, the latter captained the college team.
The presentation was made at the 21st Anniversary Awards Nite of Matale.
