Cricket Australia will not reveal its position on the possibility of some international cricket being moved from the Sydney Cricket Ground to ANZ Stadium at Homebush.
With ANZ Stadium emerging as a new option to host international cricket, Cricket NSW is in talks over the future venue of cricket matches in Sydney, sparking speculation some fixtures could be transferred there as soon as next summer.
There have been suggestions even Test cricket could eventually be moved to the Sydney Olympic Park venue, sparking concern from those who believe all matches should remain at the city's spiritual home of cricket.
While any changes decided by Cricket NSW would need to be ratified by CA, chief executive James Sutherland said he did not want to pre-empt the outcome of the negotiations.
"I'm not going to speculate about what our position is," Sutherland said at the Prime Minister's XI match against the West Indies in Canberra.
"We're right in the midst of negotiations between Cricket NSW, the SCG and Homebush and that's very much a matter for them.
"I'm not privy to their specific discussions. I'm updated on a regular basis but I wouldn't want to speculate on my position or Cricket Australia's position, that's something that will be updated going forward."
Sutherland said there were many factors that would come into play, but ultimately what was "the best outcome for cricket".
"That doesn't necessarily come down just purely to fiscal reasons or financial outcomes, a whole different range of things need to be taken into account," he said. "Access to the public and trying to develop ways in which the game of cricket can embrace the whole Australian community.
"We've got a passionate vision of being Australia's favourite sport and part of that is making sure it's accessible to all Australians." © 2010 AAP |
