Pravishtah Gunaratne and Witty Noah D'silva studied Hotel Management together in Bangalore, but it wasn't until they had left to pursue careers in different countries did the two consider getting married.
Their relationship gradually deepened, but in the end it was a love cum arranged marriage, says the groom. Witty is the son of the late R. Pious D'silva, who was president of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Andaman & Nicobar state committee. The Gunaratnes met with Mrs. Elizabeth Pious and Witty's sisters in August last year, and the couple became engaged.
Sita Gunaratne and Nimal Gunaratne, the bride's parents arranged for a spectacular wedding for their only daughter in late January. The poruwa ceremony was held at the Galle Face Hotel. The bride and groom were brought in on a palanquin, carried by Mr. Gunaratne's old classmates from Royal College and they drove away in a Mini Moke, courtesy the Mighty Mini Club of which Mr. Gunaratne is a member.
In between the couple were feted with performances and music. The two then left for a brief honeymoon in Kandy. A homecoming event, held in Trivandrum, India, for the groom's side was celebrated on January 27.
The young couple (both 27) are now working in Qatar, Doha. |
