Pragna Pradeepa: Celebrating 20 years of helping children

When the name of Jayantha De Silva appears the “Pragna Pradeepa” concept comes to mind. Mr. De Silva, came up with the “Pragna Pradeepa” concept focusing on children’s education.

Since its inception over 20 years ago, over 1.5 million children have benefited through this programme, having received school books, uniforms and other equipment. More than 500,000 children in low income families have been granted financial aid to help them continue their schooling.

Mr. De Silva has also helped children who were unable to gain admission to schools. This is one of the main reasons that he has become so popular among the people who recognize his genuine commitment.

The celebration marking 20 years of “Pragna Pradeepa” will take place at Campbell Park, Borella on February 19 at 3 p.m. A large number of schoolchildren of under-privileged families, will be gifted school supplies and uniforms. A musical programme has also been arranged by Deshabandu Sumith Perera, secretary, of the Pragna Pradeepa programme and his office staff.
