The Carlton Sports Festival, held since 2007 has become a major motor sporting event in the country. Land Rover has dominated this event since its inception, and this year too, Land Rover won the 4x4 event and the Super Cross event.
Indika Sanjaya and Navin Marapana, winners of the 2009 Malaysian Rain Forrest Challenge won the 4x4 event with ease. The duo stamped their class by returning a timing of 4 minutes 29 seconds – a full two minutes faster than the next fastest competitor.
There were contested by 18 vehicles in this event and most of them highly modified. The course was set over two kilo meters, comprising of a host of off roading challenges, including long ditches, deep mud, and steep rock climbing that included winching. Indika and Navin dominated on all sections of the course. Incidentally, Indika and Navin’s vehicle was powered by a 2,500cc diesel engine, whilst most of the other competitors used much more powerful and larger engines.
Sheran Fernando won the Truck and Jeep event at the Carlton Super Cross again. The event was toughly contested, with veteran rally driver Cassim Wahab leading the event for five out of six laps. Sheran drove a Land Rover Defender 90, specially prepared for circuit racing by Frontier Automotive, in association with Twisted Performance of the UK.
