On a day when the Thomian batsmen collapsed like a stack of dominoes, the weather Gods took pity on the boys from Mount Lavinia, providing them with bad light to rescue them from imminent defeat at the hands of their arch rivals, Royal.
The first T20 match played between the traditional rivals at the P. Sara Oval ended in the 5th over of the Royal innings. At that point the Royalists were cruising, scoring at a healthy run rate of 14.3 to get to 62 in response to S. Thomas’ 107, before the match was abandoned.
Royal’s opener Kithruwan Vithanage assaulted the Thomian bowling, slamming 6 fours and 3 sixes including one that sailed out of the grounds for an unbeaten score of 44. For S. Thomas’ the only notable contribution came from Captain Dinesh Walpita who scored 36 with 4 fours.
S. Thomas’ 107 all out in 18.3 overs (D. Walpita 36, Isuru Koswatta 17, Gaurav Deva 3 for 21, Imran Khan 2 for15)
Royal 62 for 0 in 4.2 overs (K.Vithanage 44 not out) |
