United Kingdom Association of Professionals (UKAP) had their first ever South Asian Convocation on January 24 at the Hilton Colombo. Applicants found eligible for Professional and Associate Memberships were awarded the respective certificates during the event.
Meanwhile UKAP marked another important milestone on the same day conferring Honorary Fellowships to a group of elite personalities in the island for their undisputed record in the relevant sectors. Brandix CEO Mr. Ashroff Omar was awarded for "Proficiency in Entrepreneurship", MAS Holdings CEO Mr. Dian Gomes for "Excellent Leadership", Odel CEO Ms. Otara Gunewardene for "Entrepreneurship Innovative", Sunday Times columnist Mr. Ameen Izzadeen for "Unbiased Journalism", Training Consortium MD Mr. Niroshan Silva for "Human Talent Development", Dr. Mareena Reffai for "Philanthropy" and Dr. Amarawansa Ranaweera for "Community Development".
Key speakers at the event were Dr. Ms. Ajantha Hapuarachchi Ph. D. M.Phil. B.A., Senior Lecturer, University of Colombo, Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Hyderabad, INDIA and Dr. Suraj Romesh Fernando PhD. M.A. B.A. DBM, DEM, DBCL. The importance of the event was marked by the presence of the principals from United Kingdom, Director of International Office, Asia Pacific, Dr. Mohammad Ali, Head of Inspection Services, Dr. G. Kenneth, and Director of Programmes, Dr. Mark Allen. Mr. Ilham Marikar, the Local Council for UKAP said it is only a beginning of a revolutionary journey where every deserving professional will be identified and accommodated into this privileged body sooner than later.
The specialty of this body is that it is not restricted to any particular qualification or profession. It is engulfed with the vision to give recognition and bring together those who have been in the corporate world for a considerable period of time with the necessary qualifications. Greenwich College, Dehiwela, was the host, while the Strategic Partner and Event Manager was PNT Consultants and PNT Events respectively. |
