Skills for employability - for youth in Jaffna
Corporate Skills, which is the Business English unit of the Academy of English and Drama, will be conducting a training programme in Jaffna, in Employability Skills both for those seeking employment as well as those already in service. These programmes are done in association with the Confidence Building and Stabilisation Measures project of the Ministry of Disaster Management with support from the office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
The Skills for Employability model, which has been designed by Corporate Skills, focuses on developing a more employable pool of human resources for corporates operating in Sri Lanka. The structure of the programme is such that it extends itself to improve the skills of not only new entrants into the corporate world but also coaches in service people on effective methods of communication.
Corporate Skills welcomes participants working in organisations based in the Northern Province as well as those seeking employment in any organisation in the near future to participate in this programme. The workshops are free and will be at St John's College Jaffna from April 28 to May 1 2010.
Phase 1 of this project, which was completed in January this year, involved a meeting with corporate management, especially HR and Training Managers and a comprehensive needs assessment was carried out. This needs assessment was led by Dr Kshanika Anthony, Global Leadership and Talent Development Consultant, USA along with Shyam Hettiarachchi, CEO Corporate Skills and Nirmali Hettiarachchi, Country Representative Cambridge International Examinations and Consultant, Corporate Skills.
Phase 2 of the project commences on April 28. This involves the training of youth from the Northern Province in Skills for Employability. Corporate Skills has a team of globally certified trainers with a wealth of experience in the corporate world both in Sri Lanka and abroad.
