The Central Committee of the Democratic People’s Front (DPF) led by ex-parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan last night severed its links with the United National Party and decided to act independently in parliament.
DPF National Organizer and new MP Praba Ganeshan said the decision was taken following a dispute with the UNP over its failure to accommodate the DPF leader on the UNP’s national list.
He said the party would launch a campaign tomorrow to prove that the UNP was against minorities.
He claimed that President Mahinda Rajapaksa telephoned party leader Ganeshan on Friday and expressed his shock.
“All opposition leaders are shocked because they know our leader gave voice to the Tamil people in parliament for the past ten years,” Praba Ganeshan said.
Mano Ganeshan contested the April 8 parliamentary elections from the Kandy District on the UNP ticket and lost. |
