In a bid to bring out complex issues through forum theatre Beyond Borders presents ‘Elected’ which will focus on issues of racism in governance within the atmosphere of a university.
The play revolves around Mohan, a bright young Tamil student and his campaign to run for student council president in an educational institution.
At first, Mohan seems to have a good chance of winning.
However, the spark of racism ignited by another candidate unleashes a wildfire that threatens not just Mohan’s campaign, but his life.
Will Mohan be able to surmount discrimination and oppression to win the election? Or will the oppressors succeed in silencing him?
Beyond Borders is a youth led not for profit organization which uses Forum theatre (FT) as a tool to bring out complex issues attached to sensitive social topics.
In the past, Beyond Borders has used FT to highlight a range of social issues, with great success. Previous productions include ‘Censored’ and most recently ‘Jerk?’
Forum theater created by dramatist Augusto Boal in the latter half of the twentieth century, as part of his 'Theater of the Oppressed' allowed the audience to stop, modify and change the course of his drama performances; enhancing the overall experience of everyone involved in a novel manner. Today, this particular branch of theatre is gaining popularity. |
