She started young, at the age of nine and had her first taste of success at the age of 13 emerging first runner-up in the “Fashion Designer of the Year” contest in 2005.
Soon after, she was invited to participate as a Guest Designer in “Fashion Statement” a charity fashion show alongside leading Indian designers. Now just 17, Nishika Samaratunga, a student of CIS, has established her name in the local fashion industry, marketing her creations under the label “Nishi”.
Carving a niche for herself in the Sri Lankan fashion industry, Nishika has had several fashion shows showcasing her range of hand painted sarees, casual wear and evening wear at high profile charity events. She was the youngest designer at the recent HSBC Colombo Fashion Week, her Pret a Porter Spring/Summer collection going on the ramp on day 1.
The outfits displayed here are part of her ‘French Revolution’ Collection, with feminine and petite yet structured silhouettes, combined with the style and elegance of silk in the French national colours red, blue and white. The look portrayed here by model ‘Meera’ is inspired by the classical and distinct image of Audrey Hepburn combined with the modern daring of Rhianna, with a classic fringe, distinctive lips and dramatic eyes- creating an image of bold style and chic elegance.
Currently involved with designing for a charity show in London, Nishika designs and produces orders for both foreign and local clients.
