The pioneer school Astronomical Society in Sri Lanka, Nalanda College Astronomical Society has organized an Astronomy Workshop to improve the Astronomy knowledge of interested students all over the island.
The Sky Eye 2010 Astronomical Workshop is one of the most prominent events in the Astronomy calendar as it is organized by the most experienced Astronomical Society among School Astronomical Societies. In its 15 years of history from 1995, the Nalanda College Astronomical Society has organized nearly 230 Astronomy Night Camps all over the island. Also the Nalanda College Astronomical Society has gifted Astronomy Olympiad Winners for the island.
Another significant feature of Nalanda College Astronomical Society is that they own the 4th largest telescope in the island and have the most number of telescopes when compared with all the School Astronomical Societies in the island.
The " Sky Eye 2010 " Astronomy Workshop would be held on June 11 at the Nalanda College premises from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. with the participation of Dr. Chandana Jayarathne, Senior Lecturer, Colombo University and a Scientist in Arthur C. Clarke Institute, Moratuwa. Each team will consist of a minimum of 6 members and nearly 45 school Astronomical Societies will participate.
The specialty of this event is that it is not an ordinary Astronomy Workshop and is included mostly with practical lessons and not lectures only. The students who participate will witness the glory of most exciting Astronomy Practicals ever. Also the Nalanda College Astronomical Society has organized to conduct an Astronomy Presentations Competition on this memorable day under the theme "Astronomy in our Day to Day Life".
On June 11 another masterpiece of Nalanda College Astronomical Society will be shown to the world under their theme "See the future through Reality". |
