A man from Polwatumodera in Mirissa turns out beautiful creations inside glass bottles and spent electric bulbs.
A pensioner who has retired from the supplies division of the Health Department as a technical hand, he is 57 year old P. K. Wimalasena. He has by now turned out around 150 such creations.
One depicts the ‘Patachara’ story with 56 small lanterns for which he had used a LED bulb to provide light. Some of his creations take about two to nine months to complete and needs skill, he said.
Among his other creations are depictions of the Dalada Maligawa with the Pattirippuwa, the tusker carrying the Dalada relics and several creations depicting Jathaka stories.
He says he gives the income from his creations which are sold to the temple and on one occasion he had donated a scanner to the Matara hospital. |
