A compact disc with a collection of devotional songs as a musical tribute to one of the famous saints in Sri Lanka, St. Anthony has been released coinciding with the 175th jubilee of St. Anthony’s Church, Kochchikade.
To the tunes and music direction of Sangeeth Visharadha Rev. Fr. Edmund Tillekaratne the songs are sung by a group of veteran and young and talented vocalists. Well-known vocalists Ivor Dennis, Angeline Gunatilake, Amarasiri Peiris, Rukantha Gunatilake, Nirosha Virajani, Chandana Liyanaracchi, Amal Perera and Prasanna Fernando have rendered their voices to the collection of hymns titled ‘Paduwa Pelahara’.
Others who penned words for the music of Fr. Edmund were Rev. Fr. William Liyanarachchi and Rev. Fr. Daya Sheltan Welikadarachchi. Well-known St. Anthony’s devotional hymn ‘Paduwa Nagaraye’ penned by late Rev. Fr. Mercellene Jayakodi to the music of late musician P. L. A. Somapala is also included in the devotional song collection.
“The collection of devotional songs is done with simple words that could be used as a prayer by devotees together with soothing melodies,” said Fr. Edmund describing his latest collection of devotional songs.
Fr. Edmund a professional musician has released a number of cassettes and CDs on various subjects including ‘Yowun Ridma’, an instrumental titled ‘Pahan Ridma’ and collections of Christmas songs titled ‘Naththal Asiri’ and ‘Naththal Tharumal’ all sung by well-known vocalists.
The CD is produced by Rev. Fr. Clement Rozairo who is the Administrator of Kochchikade Shirne.
The new hymns in ‘Paduwa Pelahara’ which can be sung at liturgical services is available at all St. Anthony’s churches and other leading Catholic Book Shops. |
