Please help rebuild our Lady of Fatima

The Parishioners of Fatima Church, Welikurunduwatte, Kapuwatte, Ja-ela are appealing to all Sri Lankans here and abroad who dearly love our Lady of Fatima to help rebuild the church which is now in a dilapidated state.

The church built in May 1961 by the parish priest of Weligampitiya, Rev.Fr. Alex Ranasinghe then catered to only 15 families. Today, there are over two hundred families worshipping here. At present, the walls of the church, which is to celebrate its Golden Jubilee on May 15th 2011, are badly cracked. The timber in the tiled roof is decaying, the drain pipes are broken and the roof leaks. The church cannot also accommodate the growing congregation and many stand outside the church during the service. It's planned to repair the roof and the damaged walls, and rebuild the back portion of the church making it bigger and more beautiful.

The parishioners are now hoping to raise Rs 100 lakhs and are appealing to all Sri Lankans, here and abroad to help. Any donations could be sent to Welikurunduwatte our Lady of Fatima Welfare Society, Account No: 087020230712, Hatton National Bank, Jaela. Cheques written in favour of this account could be posted to the Parish Priest, St Anne's church, Weligampitiya, Jaela.
