The British Council, in partnership with Park Street Mews and Borsao will hold a 'Book and Wine Tasting' session on Monday, August 2 at 7.30 p.m. at the Park Street Mews restaurant. Organised as part of the Animating Literature Programme, the objective is to introduce new Sri Lankan and British writing along with wines from Spain.
The event invites the public to look at literature with a different eye, altering the belief that it is merely ‘a book on a shelf’. What better way to alter one’s perception than a taste of the best wines as an incentive?
Book and wine tasting events were initiated in November 2004, giving audiences the chance to taste a variety of wines, while listening to intriguing readings. The various wines are picked to suit the mood and feel of the respective readings.
This event will feature Sri Lankan contemporary writing by Gratiaen Prize winners Shehan Karunathilake and Senaka Abeyratne and contemporary British writing by Benjamin Zephaniah and Sophie Hannah among others.
The readers include Sean Amarasekera, Ruhanie Perera, Gill Westaway and Kumar Mirchandani. The readings will be preceded by wine tasting introduced by Prakash Mirchandani.
Tickets priced at Rs. 1,200 are on sale at the Park Street Mews Restaurant (50/1, Park Street, Colombo 2) and the British Council, Colombo. |
