Getting set for the big night: Miss Working Girl 2010

The forthcoming Miss Working Girl 2010 pageant organized by the Lions Club of Thimbirigasyaya – District 306 C2 looks to unveil a fascinating combination of beauty and brains.

The Lions Club of Thimbirigasyaya – District 306 C2 is organizing this pageant, aptly themed ‘Beauty and Brain’, for the 17th time. Proceeds are in aid of the Suvanetha Lions Eye Hospital now under construction at Gothatuwa New Town.

“Since the launch of the proposed Suvanetha Lions Eye Hospital -- a fully-fledged, modern medical facility, I personally financed this project, and a major part of it has now been completed,” Project Chairperson Mrs. Soma Edirisinghe explained. “We need to now muster funds from the public to add the final touches to the complex and also to purchase the required medical equipment,” she said. Elaborating on the show, Mrs Edirisinghe said more than 200 applications were received and in the preliminary round of judging, 16 contestants were selected.

The mini pageants will follow --- Miss Photogenic on August 29 at Concord Grand, Dehiwela sponsored by Fuji Films of Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd., Miss Talent on September 5 at Rock Chalet Boutique Hotel at Kaduwela sponsored by Edirisinghe Trust Investments, Miss Best Figure and Miss Beautiful Skin also to be held on the same day sponsored by Kelloggs and Glow and Miss Personality on September 12 at the Colombo Hilton.

The pageant will be choreographed by Lou Ching Wong of Hair & Fashion Studio. The main sponsor for the event is Swarnamahal Jewellers (Pvt) Ltd., while EAP Hotels and Elephant House are the co-sponsors. Print media sponsors are The Sunday Times, Daily Mirror, Lankadeepa, Lanka Woman, EFM and Shree FM while the electronic media sponsors are Swarnavahini and ETV.
