Instrumental t a l e n t

‘Instriago’, organised by the Youth Music Council promises an unforgettable instrumental music experience. This inter-school competition will provide a platform for students attending schools around the island to showcase their talent.

The Youth Music Council consists of students from seven schools, namely S. Thomas’ College, Bishop’s College, Ladies’ College, St. Peter’s College, Royal College, Holy Family Convent - Colombo 4, and Nalanda College.

The main objective of organizers is to provide students with a friendly yet competitive atmosphere to perform as well as improve their skills and techniques in the field of instrumental music.

The preliminary stages of the competition were held on August 7 at Nalanda College, and saw five teams progress to the finals which will be held tomorrow (August 23).

The five groups selected for the finals are -

  • Joie De Vivre - St.John’s Girls’ School Panadura
  • Blended beats – Bishop’s College
  • BC String Quartet- Bishop’s College
  • Thomian Chamber Orchestra (TCO)–S. Thomas’ College
  • Fusion Band- S. Thomas’ College

The highly competent judging panel comprising fusion artiste, Mahesh Denipitiya, musician Shobinath Perera, and classical musician Anoma Fernando, will once again grace the competition during the finals. Gifted pianist Eshantha Peiris will also add to the eminent group when he appears as a guest judge.

In addition to the proceedings of the competition, a few guest performers have been lined up for the night and are to include Friendz, Eshan Denipitiya, Thrash and Debtors. The finals will be staged at the Bishop’s College Auditorium from 7.30 pm. Tickets are available at Commons, Thorana at Majestic City and Liberty Plaza.
