It was an incredible evening, replete with the kind of ambience that can only be described as unusual, uncommon and outstanding. It was the ‘Dinner Theatre’ of the Thomian Society of Colombo held at the Ballroom of the Ceylon Continental Hotel. A ‘House Full’ audience took delight in watching ‘Hon.Chaminda Pusswedilla’ in a political satire staged under the banner of the ‘37th Amendment’.
Every once in awhile, the audience would roll in fits of laughter at the score that was written and produced by Feroze Kamardeen with a professional 14-member cast that truly ‘delivered’ to expectation. A 5-course sit down dinner, jazz music to fill the air at dinnertime and a performance by the singing brothers, Ishan and Rohan de Lanerolle which drew spontaneous applause, were supplementary to the Theatre while the spontaneous humour of the evergreen Master of Ceremonies, the Founder and Patron of the Thomian Society of Colombo, Vijaya Corea contributed to the fun, enjoyment and relaxation of the distinguished gathering that was present, consisting of Members of Parliament, renowned Businessmen and Professionals too with their friends and families.
The Thomian Society of Colombo comprises of old boys of four schools, namely,
S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, Gurutalawa, Bandarawela and the Preparatory School in Kollupitiya. Membership, proposed and seconded by an existing member, is exclusively by invitation. The events of the Thomian Society of Colombo have always drawn maximum participation with the sale of tickets being completed many days before each event.
It is learnt that, close on the heels of the successful ‘Dinner Theatre’, the Executive Committee has already begun plans and preparations for another scintilating event - a colourful one night stand during Christmas on 16th December with music for dancing, dinner, carols and an anticipated array of valuable prizes and surprises. |
