Omarh Sheriff is a poet, singer and songwriter. With lyrics guided by the teachings of Buddhism and the idea of self awareness and a musical styling influenced by the genius of Roger Waters, Omarh creates poignant music that crosses generational and cultural boundaries and starkly addresses today’s issues.
Despite starting his musical career late in life, as in his words “my children are the most precious thing to me and for me to start living my dreams and have a little fun I had to first make sure I had disposed of all my responsibilities towards them in full, music has always been his first love.
Omarh says the true value of Buddhism lies not in what one eats or drinks but in personal growth - through mindfulness and self awareness. His songs ‘Be the Light to Yourself’, ‘Live Without Fear’ and ‘How Can You Judge’ address this ideal because he believes it is so important in today’s context and that we all need to grow so that we do not lose ourselves in the fast pace of day to day life.
He further says that through self awareness one’s sensitivity towards the world at large is vastly improved. The importance of ‘me’ is much reduced and with this comes greater love and compassion towards mankind - and this finally leads to spirituality. He attributes much of his own personal growth to the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurthi, whom he feels teaches the purest form of Buddhism.
