Speaking further on the significance of the Award to Sifani Jewellers, Rizwan Sahabdeen, Managing Director stated, "It is a recognition that we are capable of producing world class designs with skilled local craftsman. This is not the first time; we have been featured internationally by Vogue and Tattler and have won many accolades. However, we are extremely honoured that we have now been recognised locally as well." He further noted that the competition provides a platform for skilled local craftsmen to showcase their creations. Building on the award, Mr. Sahabdeen says that a new range of jewellery that emphasis on the significance of the environment will be produced in the coming months.
Based on the theme of this year's competition, 'environment awareness through jewellery', Sifani designer Achini created a diamond pendent, which could be worn on either side with movement. The design was titled, 'I feel it', and it symbolized a portion of a tree when it is cut.
The designer received her award at the 20th FACETS Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Show, held from September 2 to 5, 2010. The competition was supported by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board. Achini's design was showcased to the public during the Show, and thereafter at Sifani's flagship store at Odel. |
